As technology continues to reshape how we see the world, there comes a time in most parents’ lives when they must decide when to give their child a smartphone. However, the challenges and uncertainties surrounding modern technology can make this a difficult decision. 😥

Smartphones are often seen as a necessity, but access to the internet, social media and unsolicited calls can make them unsuitable for children. Although platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat impose a minimum age of 13, these restrictions do not prevent younger children from creating accounts. 📲
You may want to introduce your child to technology and give them more freedom and independence without giving them a smartphone. You may also be concerned about internet access, social media and unsolicited calls.
Smartphones can cost a small fortune, and trusting a child not to drop, damage or lose one can be difficult. Many primary schools do not allow children to bring mobile phones to school either. So, what is the alternative? 🤔
Why Xplora was created
Xplora was created in response to this exact situation. Our founder, Sten, experienced every parent’s worst nightmare when he could not find his four-year-old son in a shopping centre.
He spent what he described as the longest 25 minutes of his life searching for him, without knowing where he was or having any way to contact him. Thankfully, they were safely reunited by the shopping centre’s security team.
The experience inspired Sten to create a solution that would allow parents to contact their children and see their location without giving them a smartphone. This is where Xplora was born. ❤️

Xplora smartwatches: designed for kids, trusted by parents
Your child’s first phone
Xplora smartwatches can make and receive calls, with contacts managed through an app on the parent’s smartphone. Only pre-approved contacts can communicate with the watch, helping to prevent unsolicited calls.
This allows children and parents to stay in touch wherever they are. ✅
A wearable device designed for children
Xplora smartwatches are durable, water-resistant and adjustable, helping them fit comfortably and securely on a child’s wrist without the price tag of a traditional smartphone.
Because the device is worn on the wrist, it is also less likely to be left behind in the park or taken from a pocket. ✅
GPS location
The GPS function allows parents to view their child’s location when they are out of sight. Parents can also create Safe Zones and receive an alert when the watch enters or leaves a predefined area.
This provides greater peace of mind and helps families stay connected. ✅
School Mode
School Mode allows the smartwatch to be worn as a standard watch during lessons while pausing its interactive features.
The setting is controlled through the Xplora app on the parent’s smartphone. Parents can still view their child’s location and schedule when the watch’s interactive features should become available again after the school day.
This helps children stay connected without disrupting classroom activities. ✅

Helping children find a healthier balance
Children aged between six and seven spend an average of 133 minutes per day looking at a screen. That is more than two hours spent watching television, using the internet, playing games or accessing streaming services on smartphones, televisions or tablets.
This is one of the reasons Xplora is on a mission to create a healthier balance between screen time and physical activity.
Xplora smartwatches are designed for children aged 4–12, bridging the gap before they are ready for a smartphone and introducing them to the digital world in a safer and more controlled way.
Xplora gives parents greater peace of mind while giving children more independence and freedom. Our goal is to encourage children to spend time with friends, enjoy school, play outside and explore the world in real life rather than through a phone screen.
